Business and War

Hobbes did not think that business was war. In fact, business is impossible in a state of war.

"In such condition, there is no place for industry; because the fruit thereof is uncertain: and consequently no culture of the earth; no navigation, nor use of the commodities that may be imported by sea; no commodious building; no instruments of moving, and removing, such things as require much force; no knowledge of the face of the earth; no account of time; no arts; no letters; no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear, and danger of violent death; and the life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short" (p.72).

After reading your blog, I can see what you meant by war and business. Being victim of the war in Bosnia for five years, I witnessed and survived poverty of horrible war. During that time, I and my family could not buy food or clothes because industries stopped working, environment got polluted from weapons and chemical used to destroy ranches(land) and water. Without food and water, we were surviving each day. Once humanitarian help comes from Unicef then we would all share and eat a little by little so it can last longer. After the war finished, it took another five years to reconstruct industries and everything that was destroyed. War shorten our and others lives and for what? For land and the power.
